Play title length: how the 30 characters are used

The title is the strongest Google Play search field. It is indexed, and it is the name people see in search results.

Lead with the brand, then one keyword if the title still reads as a name. A comma-separated keyword list can be rejected even when it is under 30 characters.

Terms that do not fit go in the 80-character short description, which Play also indexes and shows under the title.

Examples that fit

  • “Fieldnote: Meeting Notes” (24)

    Brand plus one category.

  • “Paddle Invoice Maker” (20)

Brand and the job, no extra words.

  • “Trailmark Offline Maps” (22)

    Keyword that searchers actually type.

  • “Lumen Sleep” (11)

Short is allowed. Do not pad with keywords.

What to do next

When the length passes, check the live listing or draft the field with Nakxi. Neither step changes your rank by itself.

FAQ

What is the Google Play app title character limit?

30 characters, including spaces. Play title length and the character limit are the same rule. Google previously allowed 50. The current limit is 30.

Is the Play title indexed?

Yes. It is the strongest Google Play search field. The short description and the full description are indexed as well.

Can the title be mostly keywords?

Google’s metadata policy expects the title to be the app name, not a keyword list. “Brand: one term” fits. A chain of unrelated keywords can be rejected even when it is under 30 characters.

Is the App Store name the same length?

Also 30 characters, in a separate field. Check it on the App Store app name counter.
