What each store actually indexes

Apple indexes three fields: the app name (30), the subtitle (30), and the hidden keywords field (100). Promotional text (170) and the description (4,000) are written for people, not for Apple’s search index.

Google Play indexes the app title (30), the short description (80), and the full description (4,000). There is no separate keywords box. Repeating a word in the description does not buy extra rank.

Spaces count everywhere. A subtitle of “30 characters” that includes spaces is already at the limit.

Examples that fit

  • “Fieldnote: Meeting Notes” (24)

App name. Brand, then one keyword.

  • “Record, transcribe, share” (25)

Subtitle. No repeat of the brand.

  • “Record meetings, get a transcript, and share notes with your team.” (66)

Play short description. One sentence under 80.

  • “transcript,minutes,otter,zoom,teams,ai,recorder,summary” (55)

Keywords. Commas, no spaces, no words from the name or subtitle.

What to do next

When the length passes, check the live listing or draft the field with Nakxi. Neither step changes your rank by itself.

FAQ

What does this character counter check?

App Store app name (30), subtitle (30), keywords field (100), promotional text (170), and description (4,000). Google Play app title (30), short description (80), and full description (4,000). Each field has its own page if you only need one limit.

Are spaces included?

Yes. Spaces, punctuation, and line breaks count. The number matches App Store Connect and Play Console character counts, not a word count.

Which fields are indexed?

Apple indexes the app name, subtitle, and keywords field. It does not index promotional text or the description. Google Play indexes the title, short description, and full description.

How is this different from Analyze My App?

This counter checks characters you paste. Analyze My App reads a live store URL and scores the listing. Metadata AI drafts new copy inside those limits.
