App Store keywords field

The keywords field allows 100 characters. It is indexed, and shoppers never see it.

Apple already indexes these words. They are not part of the 100-character field.

Keyword field length: what the 100 characters are for

Apple combines the app name, subtitle, and this field for search. Words you already used in the name or subtitle do not need to be pasted again.

Separate words with commas and no spaces. Every space is one of the 100 characters. Singular is enough. Apple treats “map” and “maps” as the same for matching.

Do not paste the description, the brand, or competitor names you are not allowed to use. The field is hidden, but the rules on misleading metadata still apply.

Examples that fit

  • “transcript,minutes,zoom,teams,recorder,summary,dictate,caption” (62)

Commas, no spaces, no words from “Fieldnote: Meeting Notes”.

  • “budget,expense,receipt,tax,mileage,freelancer,invoice” (53)

Single terms. No “and”, no spaces after commas.

  • “trail,hike,gps,topo,offline,campsite,elevation,backpack” (55)

Fills the field with terms the name did not use.

When the length passes, check the live listing or draft the field with Nakxi. Neither step changes your rank by itself.

FAQ

How long is the App Store keywords field?

100 characters. Commas separate keywords and count toward the 100. Spaces count too, so “notes, tasks” wastes a character that “notes, tasks” keeps.

Can users see the keywords field?

No. It is hidden. Apple still indexes it. Do not paste your subtitle or a sentence into it.

Should keywords repeat the app name or subtitle?

No. Apple already combines the name and subtitle with this field. Repeating a word spends the 100 characters twice. The checker flags duplicates and words that already appear in the name or subtitle you paste above.

Do I need a space after each comma?

No. A space after a comma is counted. Use “sleep, stories, meditation” rather than “sleep, stories, meditation”.
